   Our Team

We are from Leigh High School,

San Jose, California.

For us, robotics is an amazing learning experience. Through robotics we learn concepts in physics, programming, and engineering, as well as teamwork and leadership skills.

We are proud to be a part of both FIRST and VEX, great programs which inspire our interests in STEM, and we hope that our team can help promote STEM in our school and community.

During the season we:

  • Formulated various designs using the FTC Robotics Kit and VEX kit. Our designs were often modeled after real life counterparts, such as our "Ladder," "Eiffel Tower," "Crane," and "Snowplow" designs.

  • Taught ourselves RobotC as opposed to Labview in order to expand our programming skills.

  • Our robot (named Steve) and we participated in the 2014-2015 FTC Challenge "Cascade Effect."

  • Steve's VEX counterpart, Astrid, competed in the 2014-2015 VEX Challenge "Skyrise."

  • Helped the local Dartmouth Middle School start a VEX IQ team.

  • Hosted tables at the Boy Scout STEM Fair at the Alemeda County Fairgrounds and also the Dartmouth STEM Fair.

  • Fundraised to support expenses.

Our goals for next season include:

  • Recruiting and training more underclassmen to make the team sustainable.

  • Strengthening our team dynamics and our understanding of engineering by building upon what we learned during previous seasons.

  • Using Autodesk Inventor to design our robots in Computer Aided Design.

  • Fundraising to support our expenses.

  • Furthering our community involvement by continuing to mentor local FLL and VEX IQ teams.
