FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a non-profit organization founded nearly 20 years ago by Dean Kamen.
Its mission is to inspire young people in areas of math and science, through a positive community of students, mentors, and coaches.
FTC (First Tech Challenge), from the FIRST organization is the intermediate robotics competition designed for high school students striving to learn and experience engineering.
Teams of up to 10 students are responsible for designing, building, and programming their robots to compete in an annual game against other teams.
The robot kit is programmed using a variety of languages, including NI Labview and RobotC.
Teams, including coaches, mentors and volunteers, are required to develop strategy and build robots based on engineering principles.
